FRIENDS OF THE MAINLINE STEAM LOCOMOTIVE OPERATORS ASSOCIATION |
||
MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION
The Steam Locomotive Operators Association was formed in 1975 to bring together steam locomotive owners and groups who wished to run on the main line. In
1996, SLOA changed its name to the Mainline Steam Locomotive Operators Ltd
and still continues to represent its members on issues relating to main line
running.
Friends of MSLO has been formed so that enthusiasts and all interested
partiescan, as members, obtain as much information as possible on what
is happeningwith Heritage Traction on the main line. This includesdetails of any tours, both public and private charters, news of locomotive and
rolling stock for main line steam and diesel specials, booking forms etc.
Subscription to Friends of MSLO is £10 per year, January to December
(sorry, no reductions for part year membership) and includes a membership
card, periodic Newsletters containing news and programme details, along with
a Lineside Timing telephone information line. This recorded hot line
gives out details of steam train timings (when known) on the current tour
programme and other general information on main line steam.
If you are interested in keeping up to date with the activities of MSLO,
you are invited to apply for membership by writing to the Membership Secretary.
Please enclose your remittance (cheques/PO being made payable to FMSLO) and
forward to the membership secretary, address as follows,
On this phone line, you will find details of tours, information about main
line steam specials and LINESIDE TIMINGS. With regard to the latter, all
information will be issued in good faith and will be correct as far as FMSLO
is aware at the time the message was recorded. Every reasonable effort will
be made by all tour operators to make sure they operate in accordance with
timings issued. However, many factors can affect the running of tours and
FMSLO cannot accept responsibility for early or late running, changes imposed
at short notice and not issued to us, or curtailment of a tour as a result
of circumstances outside our or their control. We therefore cannot guarantee
to obtain timings for all tours but will try our very best. MEMBERS ARE ONLY
ACCEPTED ON THE CONDITION THAT TIMINGS AND OTHER INFORMATION WILL BE SUPPLIED
AS AND WHEN WE ARE ABLE TO OBTAIN THIS INFORMATION.
A new digital system was introduced towards the end of 1999 and this has
the advantage to callers of being able to hear the start of a message from
the beginning, every time. There will no longer be any holding whilst
the tape rewinds etc. or having to listen to a message partway through.
Your only problem would be if all the lines were in use. In this case,
you will hear the standard engaged tone. Put the phone down and ring
again. There is no stacking or queuing facility! Remember, you only
pay for the call at standard telephone provider rates (depending on the
time of day that you ring etc.) We DO NOT charge anything additional for
this service, as do some other telephone premium rate lines!
Should any timings come to us regarding special moves, e.g. light engines
or test runs, we will put these on the timings phone line. It is most rare
for us to get this information as it can change date and time without notice.
Members are advised that we may not receive timings (if available that is)
until the very last thing, and you should check the phone line right up to
the day of departure. At other times, General Information about steam tours
will be given.
Newsletters and other information will be issued periodically throughout the year. Items for the Newsletter should be forwarded to our Editorial Address as shown below.
The Newsletters will contain a Steam Programme listing which you should use
in conjunction with our Telephone Hot Line. Articles and photographs are
most welcome and should be sent to the editorial address. Articles should,
preferably, be typed although legible hand-written submissions are welcome.
If a word processor is used you may send articles on disk as we can read
almost any Windows based system. We do not chase members for information or photographs. It is up to you to support the Newsletters!
Black and white prints and colour prints are both acceptable. Colour slides
are also acceptable, but we can only accept duplicate slides (not originals)
as we cannot be held responsible for any damage caused.
Normally all photographs/slides are kept on file for possible use in
future issues of the Newsletter etc. Some photographs may be passed
on to tour promoters for their brochures as a way of publicising steam
on the main line. The copyright will always remain with the photographer.
You are asked to record full details of your photograph on the rear of
each print, along with your name. If you require your material back,
please enclose a stamped addressed envelope for
the return of these items.
This has been introduced to RECEIVE information from members. Such items
as timings, press releases, brochures for tours, locomotive notes, gossip
etc. can be sent through by FAX. We will pass on, via the phone line, any
relevant information that we think would interest members.
Please note this service is for receiving information and NOT for sending
it out to members.
We operate a service of supplying Fine Art Limited Edition prints by artists
such as David Shepherd, Don Breckon, Terence Cuneo and not just of trains.
In the case of the work of David Shepherd, his wildlife prints sell out well
before the paint is dry on the canvas! If you are interested in any fine
art prints by the above artists, please write to the Editorial Address listed
below with your requirements and we will see if it is available/obtainable
for you. Regretfully, we do not have copies of catalogues of all prints
available.
