Spring Steam Gala 22-24 Mar 2002

   pic 02032509    Later the same day, 5224 tigether with 80136 doublehaed a down train through Williton. Friday 22-Mar-02.

 
   pic 02032535    Newly overhauled GWR 5205 Class 2-8-0 tank no 5224 featured extensively on gala passenger services. No 5224 was overhauled at the London and North Western Railway Company at Crewe and is now part of the Waterman Heritage Trust collection. It is currently based at the Churnet Valley Railwayand was making its first visit to the WSR. Here it is seen at Bishops Lydeard after taking water.

 
   pic 02032541    BR 9F 2-10-0 no 92212 stands at Minehead prior to working the service to Bishops Lyderad. No 92212 is based at the Great Central Railway at Loughborough. Following its brief visit to the WSR it will move to the Mid Hants Railway where work will be undertaken in preparation for main line certification. No 92212 was a former Western Region engine, and spent at leat one summer working trrains over the Somerset and Dorset line from Bath to Bournemouth West.

 
   pic 00092311    LNER B1 4-6-0 no 61264 waiting for its next turn in the shed yard at Minehead. Saturday 23 March 02. The B1 was making a very welcome second visit to the WSR, after its initila appearnace last autumn. It will be one of the two regular engines on the Jacobite Fort William-Mallaig service during the summer.

 
   pic 00092352    GWR 6959 Class Modified Hall no 6960 Raveningham Hall was making its first visit to the WSR. This engine was based for mnay years at the Severn Valley Railway, and was also a main line performer in the 1980s, before it was sold and moved to the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, its current home base.

 
   02032568    BR(WR) Hawksworth 0-6-0T pannier tank no 1501 was a last minute addition to the gala roster, standing in for home based pannier 6412 which is undergoing firebox repairs at Williton. No 1501 is the sole surviving member of this small class and is based at the Severn Valley Railway. No 1501 was once allocated to Old Oak Common shed for use on Paddington empty coaching stock duties. Sun 24-Mar-02.

 
   02032569    GWR Castle Class 4-6-0 no 5051 Earl Bathurst arriving at Minhead piloting home based BR(WR) Manor Class no 7828 Odney Manor on the 13.35 Bishops Lydeard to Minehead on Sunday 24 March 2002.

 
   02032581    GWR Castle Class 4-6-0 no 5051 Earl Bathurst on shed at Minehad Sun 24-Mar-01. The previous day 5051 worked the 6.54am Paddington-Minehead excursion. It is normally based at the Great Western Society Depot at Didcot. No 5051 spent almost all its GWR and BR(WR) working life based at Swansea Landore shed.

   02032583    A busy scene at Minehad on Sun 24-Mar-02, with right to left, no 5051, 1501, 6960 and 4160. On shed under restoration are 3850, 5193 and 53808, while 7820 is in the repair shop for crown stay replacement. Behind 4160 is shunter D2133.
